Several years ago she was diagnosed with chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome from exposure to a moldy air conditioner. This exposure led to other sensitivities like perfume, and smoke. Like any chronic condition, it took time to put into remission. This experience led to a pivot in her personal and professional life. Prior to The Filtery, she had a decade of experience in sustainability and well-being. She then furthered her education by taking courses on environmental toxins, attending lectures, and reading every book she could on the topic.
Today Abbie, dishes on what healthy living looks like for her. This includes a one-stop shop for ordering high-quality supplements, a meditation alternative, and the kitchen item she uses multiple times a day. Morning Wellness Routine
Wakeup time: It varies pretty widely! Usually anywhere between 7 and 9am.
Typical breakfast: I keep it simple: I usually just do eggs with something on top, whether that’s avocado, ground flaxseed, some bell pepper, etc.
Daily Supplements: It kind of depends on whether or not I’m in the middle of a health flare. In general, the ones I take most are probiotics, magnesium, fish oil, vitamin C, turmeric, and vitamin D (in the winter). I get all of my supplements through Fullscript so that I can make sure I’m buying from high-quality brands!
Lifestyle
Skincare regimen: I’m always trying out new skincare products to review on The Filtery, but I actually prefer to keep my skincare regime pretty minimal. If I had a different job, I would probably just use a simple cleanser and moisturizer! But I’m always trying out new serums, toners, mists, etc. Most recently, I’ve been using a mix of products from Birch Babe, DIME, Ogee, and Desavery.
Fav workout: Dance class! I grew up dancing and it’s been great to get back into it as an adult. But I also mix it up a lot—I lift weights, do Pilates, do YouTube workouts, cycle, and sometimes run, too.
My go-to easy meal is…Chicken with some sort of veggies (like broccoli, cauliflower, sweet potato, etc.) and a grain (usually rice or quinoa).
An alternative treatment I enjoy… I like to listen to self hypnosis as a form of meditation sometimes.
Kitchen item I can’t live without…My cast iron pan! I use it every day, multiple times a day.

Staying Balanced
My tip for staying healthy on the go…Find a way to move your body. Even if you just take a long walk or do a YouTube workout in your hotel room or even in the yoga room at the airport! You don’t have to get out of your movement routine just because you’re traveling. And there are so many benefits to movement, from beating jet lag to keeping your bowels regular.
When I feel stressed I…Try to tune into my body and ask it what it really needs that day. Maybe I need to force myself to the gym even if I don’t feel like it. But maybe I need to take a bath and read a book and just relax instead. Or maybe I need to call up a friend. Or maybe I need to sit in meditation for a while.
Favorite inspirational book/read…If Braiding Sweetgrass can be put under the inspirational category, then that one.
Evening Wellness Routine
Evening wind-down activity… Honestly, just sitting on the couch with my husband watching a show. Usually something funny and lighthearted like Taskmaster or Ted Lasso.
Bedtime… I’m definitely more of a night owl, so although I try to get myself into bed by 11 or so, it’s usually closer to midnight.
