What led you to want to change your career path? What were you seeking in your next move?

In the 80s, when I was starting out, I was wowed by the thought of having a corporate career. The glamour, shoulder pads, high heels, and teased hair – I couldn’t resist! I especially liked all the trappings that went along with it: a house, a car, and holidays.

I chose this path, working my way into ever-increasing senior roles. Fast forward a couple of decades, and I obtained an MBA and a Chartered Manager Fellow Accreditation. On paper, I was successful.  I loved what I did and the company I worked for, however, a feeling of ‘what’s next’ started to grow inside me.

I felt I could and should be doing something else. I wanted something that fed my soul. I knew there was more to me, and it was time I shook up my comfort zone and embarked on a new adventure. I had, for a long time, practiced self-hypnosis, yoga, and meditation. I also enjoyed reiki, breathwork, and all types of holistic practices, so it seemed natural to move into something in this field.

How did you figure out what you wanted to do next?

I discovered hypnotherapy while I was experiencing my own burnout. It helped me to get back on track and regain my focus and energy. I felt on fire! This is where it all began.

At first, I was a little skeptical that it would work for others the way it had worked for me. During the training, I had to acquire client hours and practice with family and friends. The results were always amazing, and I received great feedback, but a little part of it felt that perhaps they were being biased because they knew me and wanted me to succeed.

Once I was qualified, I started to work with clients whom I didn’t know, and the results were still as positive and effective. It was then that I knew that this was where I needed to be.

How long did you think about changing before you took your first step?

I spent a couple of months researching training schools before finally completing a course. In total, it was about 18 months of thinking and doing.

What was your first step to making your dreams a reality?

I was running my practice as a side hustle for about a year when an opportunity arose that meant I could leave my day job and set up my practice full-time. This was scary, but I went in head first.

What’s your favorite part about stepping into this new path?

Feeling alive, nervous, excited, scared, and a whole range of emotions in between. I love the energy I now exude when I am talking to people about my new path! I feel a sparkle inside me, and it’s awesome! Then there are the clients. They are amazing and just keep me lit up!

Often, they come into my studio as a last resort, desperate as they have tried everything or spent years in therapy. They leave delighted when they experience positive changes often within a single session. They all say, I wish I’d known about this before. Witnessing their success is such a rewarding experience.

What was the hardest part of the career change process?

The hardest part was letting go of the old “professional” me. The me that had to have a strategy deck, a marketing plan, and clear goals and objectives. Not that those are bad things, but I was forgetting about aligning with my soul’s desires. It was not easy doing the self-work to figure out who you are and where you need to be. The journey is not over, and there is more to come, but it’s been glorious.

What do you attribute to your success?

Finding my authenticity!
