Growing out overplucked brows has been a slower process than I expected. I spent most of my teens and twenties regularly waxing my eyebrows. And even though I haven’t touched them in years, they still haven’t completely recovered.
No waxing, tweezing, or even trimming these days (minus maybe a stray hair or two). Instead of reshaping them, I’ve shifted more toward styling them and letting them do their thing while they slowly grow back in.
My brows can be a little unruly, so they definitely need some help in the meantime. I’m finally noticing new growth in areas I waxed for years, but it’s been a very slow process. This is what’s been helping them look a little more polished while they grow out.
What My Brows Look Like Right Now
My brows are currently very uneven. Each one has a completely different shape and different sparse areas.
One brow is fairly full and has a decent shape, but it’s shorter and a little sparse toward the front.
The other one is sparse right in the middle, so it takes a bit more effort to blend that area in. The tail also has some longer hairs that don’t sit well because of the missing hair in the center.
They’re definitely still a work in progress, but I’m hopeful they’ll eventually fill back in.
What’s Helping While Growing Out My Brows
I was using castor oil for a while, and I do think it helped with growth, but it felt really thick and heavy. I only used it at night, so it didn’t do much in terms of helping my brows look polished during the day.
More recently, I picked up the Rye Brow Serum during the latest Credo Beauty sale. I shared more ofthe non-toxic beauty products I stocked up on lately.
I’ve been using the serum every morning to brush and set my brows, and honestly, it’s become one of my favorite parts of my routine.
It helps keep my brows in place and makes them look more polished while I continue growing them out. It feels lightweight, refreshing, and softens the brows instead of making them stiff. It also takes about 10 seconds to apply.
It’s still too early to tell whether it’s helping with growth, but it contains ingredients like biotin, gotu kola, and green tea, which are known to support hair growth and condition the brows.
So far, I’ve really been enjoying it and would definitely repurchase.
Light Filling (Without Overdoing It)
Some days I don’t fill my brows in at all and just use the serum.
If I want them to look a little more even, I use Ecobrow Defining Wax, which I’ve had for years. This tiny pod lasts forever. I honestly can’t remember the last time I replaced it.
I use an angled brush and lightly fill in the sparse areas. I’m not trying to create perfect brows, just make them look a little more balanced and natural.
Brushing + Setting
I brush my brows down first, then upward. After that, I smooth over the top to help any longer hairs stay in place.
That’s pretty much it.
Leaving Them Alone (Important)
One of the biggest things that’s helped is simply leaving them alone.
I’ve resisted the urge to pluck because every time I do, I inevitably pull hairs I’ll probably want back later.
There’s definitely been new growth happening, but it’s taking much longer than I expected to fully grow them back in. Still, it’s exciting seeing new hairs finally starting to come through.
What I’m Noticing So Far
I’ve noticed small improvements over time. New hairs are coming in, especially in areas that were sparse for years, and my brows are slowly starting to look fuller and longer.
They’re still uneven, but overall they look much more natural than the overly thin brows I had for years.
How This Fits Into My Routine
My beauty routine is pretty simple these days. Right now I’m using a tinted moisturizer with SPF, a bronzing stick, blush, mascara, brown eyeliner, and brow gel. The whole thing takes maybe five minutes.
I keep everything fairly minimal overall. I’ve shared more in my clean makeup routine and everyday non-toxic skincare essentials.
My Eyebrow Journey: Growing Out Overplucked Brows
My brows are still very much a work in progress, but the new growth has been encouraging.
And honestly, they don’t need to be perfect to feel better than they did before.
So, if you find yourself growing out your overplucked brows… a little styling and the right products have helped them look more polished.
It’s not perfect, but it feels a lot better than where I started.
