Challenge: 3-Day Social Media Detox

Ever crave a break from the constant exposure to social media feeds? Me too. This is why I decided to launch a 3-Day Social Media Detox Challenge! This is a great way to reset and rebalance.

The Effects of Social Media

Most of the time, social media is my default for filling idle time. While that might seem harmless, I often find that it makes me feel kinda crappy afterward.

First, I feel bad for wasting precious time each week scrolling through Instagram stories when I could be living my life.

Second, I feel even worse when I get sucked into the comments section where you are bound to find some negativity. It’s like a car crash, you know you shouldn’t look but you do anyway.

Thirdly, it’s super easy to fall into the comparison game through this lens of hyper-filtered, curated lives.

Studies done across numerous countries including the US have shown a correlation between social media use and depression. I’m not surprised at all.

We are constantly bombarded with pictures and videos of matcha lattes and trips to Europe. It is easy to think everyone else has it all together or some else’s life is better than yours.

The thing is we don’t typically see the behind the scenes footage, only the good parts.

Some may argue that social media is how we stay connected and maintain relationships but is it really? We could also use that same time to pick up the phone and call someone. Or meet a friend for coffee.

We could create memories instead of watching others create them.

While social media is not all bad, it could be helpful to give yourself a break.

This brings us to today’s challenge.

Challenge Benefits

There are many benefits to taking a break from social:

  • More free time
  • Increased connection to yourself and others

  • A break for your hands, neck, and eyes

  • No more comparison

Plus, through this challenge, you have the added benefit of doing it with a supportive community.
