Are At-Home Blood Tests Worth It? My Superpower Health Review

If you’ve been looking for an at-home blood test review before trying one yourself, here’s mine after using Superpower Health.

I tend to put off going to the doctor or getting updated blood work because, honestly, I despise the process.

The waiting rooms, the fasting longer than necessary, the general inefficiency of it all. It always feels like more work than it should be.

The last time I went, I waited over two hours in a packed lab, and that was kind of the breaking point.

So when I found an option to do this from home, I was immediately interested.

If you’re considering trying it, I’ve included a $20 discount at the end of this post.

What Is Superpower?

Superpower is a comprehensive blood testing membership designed for people who want deeper insight into their health.

It’s essentially an at-home blood test (or lab-based option) where you can choose from 100+ biomarkers.

Your membership includes one annual blood draw (no insurance required), and it’s HSA/FSA eligible, which is always a win.

If you’re into preventative health and actually understanding what’s going on in your body, it’s a pretty powerful tool to have.

Over the past few years, I’ve also experimented with other at-home wellness tests, including the Tiny Health gut test for my family, which gave us valuable insights into my son’s gut health along with practical steps we could take to help improve his eczema.

How Superpower Works (Step-by-Step)

Overall, the process was surprisingly simple.

1. Signing Up

You sign up, answer questions about your health and current supplements, select your tests, choose your preferred lab method, and check out.

Everything is clearly priced as you go so no surprise fees, which I always appreciate.

2. The Lab Experience

You can go to a lab… or you can pay extra for an at-home blood test experience.

In my (slightly lazy, very full life) opinion, this was 100% worth it.

No waiting rooms. No rearranging your entire day. Zero exposure to sick people.

The technician showed up, drew a few vials while I sat in a chair in my kitchen, and was out in 10–15 minutes.

Easily the most pleasant blood test experience I’ve ever had.

3. Getting Your Results

Results came back within a few days (though it can take up to a week), and I got a text when everything was ready.

You can access everything online or through their app.

Breaking Down the Dashboard

The dashboard is broken into four sections: Data, Protocol, Concierge, and Marketplace.

1. Data

This is where you can view all of your biomarkers.

It clearly shows what’s optimal, normal, and out of range. Naturally, I filtered straight to the few things that needed attention.

For me, calcium was low and I had a slight vitamin d deficiency, so I adjusted my supplements.

There were also markers like bilirubin (something I vaguely remembered from my chronic illness days), and I appreciated that Superpower explained what it meant and why it mattered.

Overall, I got the gist without needing a doctor to explain everything.

2. Protocol

This section is broken into supplements, lifestyle, and nutrition.

Supplements:

It recommends high-quality options tailored to your results. You can purchase directly or do your own thing (which I did).

It also told me to stop taking one supplement I had in rotation, which I appreciated.

Lifestyle:

The lifestyle tips included hydration, sunlight, sleep, movement. Nothing overwhelming. Suggestions like ten minutes a day of sunlight. That felt doable.

Nutrition:

This was one of my favorite parts.

It gave personalized, easy-to-follow suggestions like:

  • Eat fatty fish (like salmon) or UV-exposed mushrooms for vitamin D
  • Add 1–2 servings of cruciferous veggies for bile flow

Simple, realistic tweaks, not a full life overhaul.

3. Concierge

The Conceirge is an AI-based tool that answers questions while also incorporating your latest blood work results.

4. Marketplace

This is where you can purchase your specific supplement recommendations if you choose.

Support & Guidance

Most of the platform is very intuitive.

The only thing I didn’t see was the biological age calculator, which I thought was included. I reached out to their team but never heard back.

There is an option to book a 15-minute call with a Superpower health guide or chat via text, which may be helpful if you want more clarity.

What Superpower Tests

My panel included 101 biomarkers across:

  • Heart & vascular health
  • Metabolic health
  • Hormones
  • Thyroid
  • Inflammation
  • Liver & kidney function
  • Nutrients
  • Immune system
  • Brain health
  • And more

Yes, you can get these through a doctor.

But most doctors aren’t walking you through every marker unless something is seriously off.

This gives you a deeper understanding of what’s going on before it becomes a bigger issue.

What I Liked About Superpower

If you’ve been putting off blood work like I was, this is honestly the easiest way I’ve found to get it done. Here’s what I liked:

  • The at-home convenience alone made it worth it
  • It helped me catch deficiencies early
  • It gave clear, actionable next steps
  • It highlighted what actually mattered

I also loved that it combined data with lifestyle and nutrition guidance. It felt more holistic than typical lab results.

What I Didn’t Love

Let’s be honest…it’s not cheap.

It’s $399/year for the membership PLUS about~$120 for the at-home blood draw (varies by location).

They also don’t take insurance (though you don’t need it), and while you get a lot of insight, you’re not reviewing everything directly with a doctor.

It was also hard to get in touch with someone when I couldn’t find a specific test result. I never heard back from their customer support team after more than one follow-up. And the AI chatbot was unhelpful for this scenario. Hopefully, this isn’t the norm but the customer service support was lacking.

Is Superpower Worth It?

For me, yes. It helped me finally get blood work done that I had been putting off for months.

If you’re wondering “are at-home blood tests worth it?”, I’d say it depends, but for convenience, this made it significantly easier.

If you’re:

  • health-conscious and want a quick check-in
  • someone who will actually act on results
  • short on time

…it’s a high-value option.

If you’re already seeing a functional medicine doctor, or prefer to have a doctor to review it with, it’s probably not worth it.

Final Thoughts: Superpower At-Home Blood Test Review

In this season of life, I value convenience. A lot. And I’m willing to pay for things that save me time and mental energy. The at-home blood draw alone probably kept me from procrastinating this for another six months (or more).

And instead of guessing with supplements, I now feel like I’m taking a much more targeted approach. For me, paying a little extra to easily stay on top of my health is worth it.

If you’ve been putting this off, this makes it significantly easier to actually follow through.

I’ve clearly gone down the rabbit hole of at-home wellness testing, and I also shared my thoughts on the Viome Full Body Intelligence Test.
