Simple 5-Ingredient Trail Mix Recipe

Simple 5-Ingredient Trail Mix Recipe

I’m obsessed with this 5-ingredient trail mix recipe! I just had a baby and nursing makes me ravenous. I love snacking on this throughout the day. The protein from the nuts keeps me full and the sweetness from the dried fruit makes it delicious.

Why Make Your Own Trail Mix?

It’s much healthier to make your own as you have control over the ingredients. Two weeks ago, I was eating a store-bought trail mix. I assumed I was eating a healthy snack until I read the ingredients, which included additives like cane sugar and a mixture of seed oils. We all know that processed sugar isn’t good for you. Then there are the combination of seed oils which are known to be highly processed and may promote inflammation in the body. I’m not a fan of seed oils because they often are genetically modified.

I wanted a raw trail mix with nutrient-dense, high-quality ingredients so I decided I would experiment with making my own!

The 5-Ingredient Trail Mix Recipe

Here is the trail mix combo I ended up with:

  • 1/4 cup organic walnut pieces
  • 1/4 cup organic pepitas
  • 1/4 cup organic raw almonds
  • 1/4 cup organic dried apricots
  • 1/4 cup organic mulberries

I included nuts and seeds for texture and dried fruits for flavor. I mixed equal parts of each ingredient to keep it balanced.

You’ll notice, I avoided dried cranberries. Cranberries are naturally tart so most of the options are loaded with sugar. Instead, I swapped in dried apricots and mulberries to add sweetness. The dried apricots I purchased are mixed with a little rice flour to avoid them sticking together. Both of these were the perfect addition to this healthy snack!

It’s also a great gluten-free and vegan snack option!

5-Ingredient Trail Mix Nutritional Benefits

The ingredients in this trail mix have a lot of great nutritional benefits! Mulberries are rich in various vitamins and minerals such as Vitamin C, Iron, Vitamin E, and Potassium. Dried apricots are a good source of Vitamin C and A. The mixture of nuts contains healthy fats and protein. Pepitas, also known as pumpkin seeds, are packed with protein, and antioxidants and high in magnesium.

Where to Buy Trail Mix Ingredients

Instead of running around to find all of these ingredients in stores, I ended up ordering from nuts.com. They have a wide variety of options to choose from in case you want to swap something out. Also, their shipping was super fast. I received my entire order the next day which was amazing.

Overall this 5-ingredient trail mix recipe ended up being a huge success! It’s delicious, incredibly easy to make, and you can customize it to make it your own. Lastly, it’s great for snacking at home or on the go. I’m eating it as I write this post at my desk.
