Lately I’ve been in a bit of a breakfast rut. I love my smoothies and gluten-free toast with butter, but I was craving something savory. I tried this 3-ingredient smoked salmon toast on a whim, and it’s quickly become part of my regular breakfast rotation.
For years, my favorite New York City brunch order was smoked salmon Benedict. I don’t eat eggs anymore, but I still crave those same savory flavors. This simple toast somehow scratches that itch without requiring a trip to a restaurant or much effort.
It takes about five minutes, uses just a few ingredients, and somehow still feels a little special. It’s become one of my favorite breakfasts, quick lunches, and even those nights when I don’t feel like cooking.
What I Use
This is less of a recipe and more of a combination I’ve been making on repeat.
- Gluten-free sourdough (I love Simple Kneads.)
- Dairy-free chive cream cheese (Kite Hill is my favorite.)
- Smoked salmon
If I have fresh dill in the fridge, I’ll throw a little on top. It makes it feel even more like brunch.

A Few Extras (If You’re Feeling Fancy)
Honestly, it’s delicious exactly as it is. But if I have them on hand, I’ll sometimes add:
- Thinly sliced red onion
- Capers
- Fresh dill
- Lemon zest
- Arugula
- Everything bagel seasoning
They’re all optional.
How I Make It
- Toast the bread.
- Spread on a generous layer of cream cheese.
- Top with smoked salmon.
- Finish with whatever extras you have.
That’s it. No chopping. No pans. Minimal cleanup.

Why I Love It
One thing I’ve been trying to do lately is keep a few ingredients in the refrigerator that make everyday meals feel a little more exciting. Smoked salmon is one of those ingredients.
This toast is satisfying, packed with protein, and takes almost no effort, which means I’m actually more likely to make it than reach for those healthy ingredients I buy with the best intentions…only to throw them away a week later (I’m looking at you, romaine.)
It’s also one of those meals that feels just as appropriate for a slow weekend brunch as it does for a Tuesday between Zoom calls.

If You’re Looking for an Easy Breakfast or Lunch…
Honestly, this almost feels too simple to call a recipe. But it’s become such a staple in my kitchen that I had to share it.
If you’ve been stuck in a breakfast or lunch rut too, give it a try. It might not be smoked salmon Benedict, but it definitely satisfies the craving.
